That is the combination to check: nailed ledgers, posts set straight into the clay, no diagonal bracing, and railing posts that have loosened over decades. Each is fixable. All of them together, on a deck that high, is worth knowing about before a crowded Fourth of July.
Much of East Cobb is unincorporated, so a Marietta address there permits through Cobb County. Closer to the Square, inside the city limits, it goes through the City of Marietta. The older houses near the Square tend to have smaller, lower decks with different problems - more ground moisture, less height.
